Paul Mitchell joined the Dons on a loan spell from Wigan in 2004 and made 15 impressive appearances as a midfielder.
Danny Wilson managed to sign him on a permanent basis after the Dons narrowly avoided the drop to Division 2 at the end of the season.
In the 2005/2006 season, Mitchell was an ever present, making 43 appearances in total. He was awarded the captain's armband after Ben Chorley was sent off in a match for inappropriate conduct. He remained captain for the rest of the season
Mitch played well in the pre-season friendly games for 2006/2007, but lost the captain's armband when Martin Allen joined the club as the new manager. He spent a large part of the season on the bench and went on loan to Wrexham, where he played 5 games and began to show some real form.
Mitch was recalled to the Dons and was playing some of his best football when he broke his leg which ruled him out of football for 12 months. Despite being out of contract, chairman Pete Winkelmann gave him a one year contract
